Fifteen-year-old Kevin Jansson has been studying piano since the age of six with Mary Beattie at CIT Cork School of Music in Cork, Ireland. He has won many scholarships and prizes in his school including the Junior Concerto and Senior Recital Competitions. He gave his first solo piano recital at the age of twelve in June 2013 and in December of that year was chosen to participate in the Finlay Programme for Gifted Pianists, a mentoring programme run by the Dublin International Piano Competition.
He has won many prizes at both Feis Maitiú and Feis Ceoil. In 2015 in Dublin, he was first prize-winner in three piano competitions in his age group – for Baroque playing (Bach and Scarlatti), recital repertoire, and duo playing.
Kevin was invited to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D Minor K466 with the CSM Chamber Orchestra under director Dr Geoffrey Spratt as part of the Cork Choral Festival Programme in May 2014. As well as performing at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival where he was selected to collaborate with and perform the music of Austrian composer Thomas Larcher, Kevin has also been chosen to play at the launch of the New Ross Piano Festival. In 2015 his performances included, among others, concerts during the Music for Wexford Summer Lunchtime Series, the Music in Calary Festival in Co. Wicklow and at the Feis Ceoil Gala Concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. He was also recently a guest performer at the Allianz Business to Arts Awards event in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin.
In November 2014 Kevin was one of 12 pianists selected worldwide to attend the Allianz Lang Lang International Music Foundation Junior Music Camp in Barcelona for one week, culminating in a public concert masterclass with Lang Lang. He has also had masterclasses with Ewa Poblocka, Olga Solovieva, Alexei Grynyuk, Andreas Weber, Joseph Moog, Pavel Nersessian and John O’Conor and has attended masterclasses at the Sommerakademie at the Mozarteum in Salzburg on three occasions.
In February 2016 Kevin will be one of eight young performers who will each give a recital at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad in Switzerland following an invitation from the 2015 Gramophone Young Artist of the Year, German pianist Joseph Moog.
Kevin is also a very accomplished violinist and chamber musician. He is the current first-place holder of the National Concert Hall Young Musician’s Award for Strings and has performed as soloist with the RTE National Concert Orchestra. In 2012 he became the youngest ever member of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. He was also an all Ireland winner in traditional Irish music at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in 2014.
