In 1904, a Church of Ireland editorial supported the aims of the Gaelic League, saying, ‘If we insist upon our right to be recognised as Irish people we must be prepared to accept along with the honour conferred by the title the duties which it involves. One of these duties is the preservation of the historic Irish language’.
